Congratulations to Emily Hall, who has just become a key worker within six months of starting her childcare Apprenticeship!
Emily began her Childcare Apprenticeship at Emerald Nursery a couple of weeks after her 16th Birthday, and since then has grown in maturity and is embracing the training delivered by NCT!
After going to college for a few month while taking part in a childcare course, Emily didn’t feel that the course was for her and wanted to look for an opportunity where she could gain practical experience rather than doing written work. After speaking to her Dad, who works in the training industry, he told her about the benefits of completing an Apprenticeship, so she started looking for childcare apprenticeship opportunities where she could earn while learning a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Childcare.
Emily has always wanted to work in childcare since school but was advised not to choose childcare as a subject so chose an alternative, but still had her mind set on working in childcare. Emily commented, “My Mam works in a nursery, so I have always been around this type of environment as I used to visit the nursery after school.
I like that I’m able to do the written work as well as the practical, as I can understand the standards required to work in the childcare sector such as Safeguarding.”
Six months into her Childcare Apprenticeship, Emily became a ‘Keyworker’ in the nursery, meaning she has her group of children to work with. Emily commented, “I feel proud to have a group of children of my own to work with.
It allows me to understand the children more and put more in depth information into my Childcare Apprenticeship work. I’m really enjoying it!”
