Safeguarding

What is Safeguarding? Safeguarding means protecting people's health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.

Our policy is to take reasonable steps to promote and safeguard the welfare of any child, young person or vulnerable adult engaged in any of our activities.

In judging the quality of safeguarding we MUST evaluate the extent to which we:

• Raise awareness of safeguarding issues amongst learners, staff, contractors and employers,
• Ensure a robust approach to the safe recruitment of staff, learners, subcontractors and employers through policies and procedures which incorporate current guidance and legislation,
• Have effective arrangements in place to promote and maintain a safe learning environment,
• Ensure that adults at risk know how to access information on safety from abuse and violence and know that there are staff they can approach to talk about any concerns,
• Provide information and training for staff on safeguarding and working with adults and young people at risk,
• Ensure arrangements are in place to monitor and review safeguarding issues and procedures,

Prevent

Prevent is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is 1 of the 4 elements of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

The Prevent strategy:

• Responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views;
• Responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views;
• Provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support; and
• Works with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health) where there are risks of radicalisation that we need to deal with.

Equality and Diversity

What is Equality? Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age.

What is Diversity? Diversity aims to recognise, respect and value people’s differences to contribute and realise their full potential by promoting an inclusive culture for all staff and students.

Our policy is to take reasonable steps to “challenge inequality and celebrate diversity” and demonstrate a commitment to promoting good practice among all its staff, associates, clients and customers in all matters relating to Equality & Diversity.

In judging the quality of equality and diversity we MUST evaluate the extent to which we:

• Actively promote equality and diversity, tackle bullying and discrimination and narrow achievement gaps
• Meet our responsibilities under the Equality Act and Duty of Care
• Build equality of opportunity into our services
• Use data to address under-representation, underachievement and stereotyping
• Use appropriate, specific and measurable (SMART) improvement measures.

Health and Safety

Regulations and procedures intended to prevent accident or injury in workplaces or public environments.

British Values

In June 2014, the Government emphasised the important role that British values can play in education, how well these are taught and integrated as part of the ethos of post 16 education. They are now a focus of the Ofsted inspection process.

Although the concept of reinforcing British values is something which is developing in significance for the FE Sector, it is not new to us at Profound. British values are promoted in so much of what we do, not least during our vocational programmes.

As well as actively promoting British values we would also actively challenge learners, employers, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views of any variety.
