  What is initial assessment ?

The first part of your learning experience is called initial assessment.
Initial assessment is the process that a member of NCT staff or other relevant training provider will go through with you to help you plan your learning.

It involves a range of activities to gather the information needed to identify your own learning needs.
The type of information that is required varies depending upon the type of learning you are doing and may include:

xx Your job role and career history
xx Previous qualifications  and learning experiences
xx Your preferred learning style
xx Literacy and numeracy assessment
xx Special support needs e.g. Dyslexia
xx Skills scan

Initial assessment gives you and your assessor a measure of where you are starting from in relation to the requirements of the qualification you are aiming to achieve.
The information will be gathered using a range of methods using a formal assessment for literacy and numeracy, interview and completion of forms.
Your initial assessment is carried out and you should feel that it is being done with you and not to you.
You will be helped to understand why the information is needed and be given feedback afterwards.
It is important to remember that the activities are there to make sure your learning is designed to suit you as an individual.
