Our Childcare Qualifications

Level 2 Childcare Apprenticeship

The intermediate level apprenticeship is for those who are working, or want to work, under supervision in early learning, childcare, social care, learning development and support services. For Level 2, learners can work with children up to the age of 19 years old. It could lead to employment as an assistant in a children's centre, nursery, playgroup, care worker, youth and community worker or registered childminder or nanny.

Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship

The advanced level apprenticeship is for learners who work, or want to work, in an unsupervised role with children in an Early Years settings (0-5 years). It gives learners the opportunity to demonstrate competence as an Early Years Educator, Child Minder or Nursery Nurse. Apprentices will develop knowledge and skills related to the specified job roles in early years education, have existing skills recognised, achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification and develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning.

At Level 3, the qualification serves as the required qualification (for all new practitioners) for registration and regulatory requirements in the early learning and childcare sector.

For more information on individual qualifications, register your interest by emailing info@nct-ltd.co.uk.

Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

EYFS Statutory Framework sets out that ‘in group settings, the manager must hold at least a full and relevant level 3 qualification and at least half of all other staff must hold at least a full and relevant level 2 qualification.’

However, there are still approximately 11% of paid staff working in childcare who have no qualifications.

It is vital that those providing childcare are able to demonstrate the right qualities and gain the appropriate qualifications in order to support children and young people to gain the best start in life and provide them with a safe and secure environment. Childcare Apprenticeships delivered by NCT will support apprentices to do this.

If you’re interested in hiring a Childcare Apprentice or upskilling existing staff, contact National Care Team on 0191 523 45320 or email info@nct-ltd.co.uk.
