Traineeships Help develop the next generation of employees

Course Application Process

Traineeships from National Care Team Ltd, a free selection and recruitment service for your business

What is a Traineeship?

Introduced in 2013, Traineeships provide an education and training programme with work experience that is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

With Traineeships, businesses can help develop the next generation of employees, equipping young people with the personal and practical skills required.

Who can undertake a Traineeship?

Traineeships are targeted at 16-23 year olds who are not currently in employment, but who are motivated to work. Our Traineeships are suitable for those who have little work experience and would like to develop their skills and employability.

What is the difference between a Traineeship and an Apprenticeship?

  • Apprenticeships last between one and three years, depending on the level of training, whereas a Traineeship lasts between six weeks and five months
  • Employers are not required to pay young people taking part in Traineeships but this is a requirement for Apprenticeships
  • A Traineeship is aimed at those who are unemployed between the ages of 16-23 whereas an Apprenticeship can be undertaken by new or existing staff of all ages and abilities, depending on course area and level

What are the benefits to my business?

  • Traineeships are flexible and by working closely with you, we can tailor the Traineeship to meet the needs of your business
  • There is no cost to your business as all training costs are met by government funding
  • Your current employees will also have the opportunity to build their mentoring and coaching skills by working with the trainee
  • Traineeships can be a taster for leaners, a pre-apprenticeship programme to assist them with further employment and career planning
  • Source high-quality Apprenticeship candidates who already have experience in your business
  • Attract and recruit staff for your current or future skill requirements
  • Support young people in your local community

How to recruit a trainee?

Our specialist Recruitment Team will advertise your traineeship vacancies on the National Apprenticeship Service, related recruitment websites and social media to ensure maximum visibility for your vacancies. We will market your vacancies as widely as possible, targeting your audiences through our strong links with the Work Programme, Job Centre Plus and schools.

How much does it cost?

All training costs are met by government funding. Employers are not required to pay young people taking part in a Traineeship.

What is my involvement as an employer?

You will need to commit to a high quality work placement, lasting at least six weeks within your organisation.

All learners must be offered an interview with their main employer at the end of the work placement in the form of either:

  • An interview for a position with your business, if one is available.
  • If no apprenticeship or job opportunity exists within your business, providing a meaningful exit interview together with a reference to help them secure an apprenticeship or employment with another employer.
