Who The Apprenticeship Is For

All those who already have an understanding of a childcare setting and would like to gain a qualification to work un-supervised in a residential setting

What Will You Learn

Apprenticeship Content

This advanced qualification will prepare you with the further skills to work un-supervised as a Childcare Worker in a residential setting. The course will enhance your skills in childcare by covering; engaging in professional development in residential child care, safeguarding and welfare of children and young people and support group living in a residential child care setting. There are optional units available to tailor your course towards working with children with learning or behavioural difficulties or supporting young people leaving a residential care setting

Learning Methods

You will be assigned a qualified training advisor, where learning will be undertaken by mixture of 1 to 1 sessions, group sessions, on/off the job learning and mentor support as well as opportunities to supervise others.

Assessment Methods

The course will be assessed via a range of methods which could include direct observations within a classroom or nursery setting, written/electronic portfolio, guided discussions and assignments

Progression Opportunities

There would be opportunities to progress onto a Level 5 Leadership for Children and Young People’s Services or a relevant Foundation/Honours Degree

Career Opportunities

Potential job roles include Children Centre Worker, Nursery Nurse, Nursery School Teacher or Self-Employment as a Registered Child Minder

Entry Requirements


You need to have been a resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the past 3 years and should be at least 16 years old. You will need to be currently employed, or volunteering within the Children and Young Peoples Workforce to show competence
